The Militia Immaculatae (MI) was established in 1917 in Rome by St. Maximilian Kolbe as an institution of the Catholic Church. It is a reaction to the attacks on the Church and the souls, a spiritual army and knighthood under the banner of the Immaculate.
After the 2nd Vatican Council the MI was adjusted to fit the new modernistic spirit. It was no longer to be militant and missionary. That’s why the MI in the year 2000 was re-established by the Society St. Pius X in its original spirit recommended by Bishop Bernard Fellay.
Regarding the increasing crisis of the Church and the worsening “decisive battle” (cf Our Lady of Fatima), a resolute army of combat troops under the banner of “the Lady, veiled with the sun” of the Apocalypse seems more necessary than ever.
The essence of the MI consists in consecration to the Immaculate. The Knights dedicate themselves to their Queen as instruments to spread the Kingdom of the Christ through Mary and to save souls. First they do this through prayers and sacrifices, but also through external works of apostolate, especially by distributing the Miraculous Medals. Thereby the MI can be designated as a concrete answer based on the requests of Our Lady of Fatima.
In April 2016 Fr. Karl Stehlin SSPX was appointed as International Director of the MI. The MI enjoys a good spread and in September 2016 had about 16,000 members around the whole world.
