Our Lady of the Pillar or Nuestra Señora “del Pilar”

Our Lady of the Pillar or Nuestra Señora “del Pilar”

The oldest apparition in the history of the church. The Apostle Santiago in Zaragoza and the famous shrine of Our Lady of the Pilar.

We should rather speak of bilocation, since the event took place while the Virgin Mary was still alive.

The apostle St James was preaching the Gospel in the north of Spain without much success, having converted only 9 people. While he was praying on the shores of the Ebro, he heard the voices of angels singing Hail Mary, full of grace… He immediately knelt down and saw the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ standing between two choirs of thousands of angels on a marble pillar. When this was finished, the Blessed Virgin Mary very gently called the blessed apostle James to her and said to him:

“This, my son, is the place appointed and dedicated in my honour, on which, through you, and in memory of me, my church is to be built. Pay attention to this pillar on which I stand, for it is certainly my Son, your Master, who sent it from heaven by means of the angels.

Near it you will place the altar of the Chapel and the virtue of the Most High will do wonders and marvellous prodigies in those who, being in need, will invoke Me.

This pillar will remain in this place until the end of the world and there will always be someone in this city who will venerate the name of Jesus Christ my Son.”
