Blessed be Immaculate!
Dear Knights!
It is hard to share an affirmative attitude of the Primate of Poland card. Stefan Wyszyński towards the last council and post-counciliar changes and also to counciliar spirit of popes John XXIII, Paul VI and John Paul II. However, Primate’s Marian devotion can and even should raise our recognition. So let’s today ask Primate, what is the sense of imitation of Mary for the whole Church and every faithful? In one of his texts
[1] we find such words on this theme:
“So in the Church we simultaneously imitate Christ and His Mother. Our life is fully Christian only when we imitate Christ and Mary. Even if we imitated Christ in the best way we could, we would not exhaust a “model” content of Christianity. We must also follow Mary. This is why in the Church there is a Christ spirituality and Marian spirituality — although the same in their essence, but not the same. We differ a spirituality of Christ’s Christianity and a spirituality of Christian motherhood, Marian one. We have a double example: the model of the perfect Man and of the Mother of Him. The feminine elements became sanctified, purged after being disrupted in Eve and placed in an order of actions and means that the Church makes use of. It does not mean that men should imitate Christ and women Mary. No! All of them should follow both Christ and Mary, drawing from them everything they need to replenish the earth. Mary will become a special example for Christian women who follow Christ in a «feminine way».
But even the Church itself not only gives an example to its children, but also imitates Christ and Mary. The Church, as an institution and human society, that leads to heaven, imitates Mary as a Virgin and a Mother. The Church gives birth to a new life and is a Mother, so It has to imitate Mary’s virtues — first of all Her fidelity to Christ. This is why the Church not only creates a Marian devotion, but also asceticism and Marian spirituality — in Poland it manifests itself in giving everything to Mary in Her motherly slavery of love.
The Church in its work also imitates Mary’s motherly feelings. It learns how to act like a mother and is obliged to the motherly style. While observing how Mary looks after Christ, the Church learns how to take care of all God’s children, born on the cross of Christ’s Blood. The Church has to be motherly and is so, that is why it is called “Mother Church”. To Mary’s presence in the Church we attribute the fact that the Church becomes more and more maternal and teaches us about it. It does so not only to mothers, but also bishops, priests and all those who can forget that the Church is the mother. That’s why in the Church there a lot of place for God’s Mother, as She constantly reminds us about it”.
