The 100th Anniversary of the Militia Immaculatae was celebrated during the Pilgrimage of the Society of St. Pius X to Fatima.
Around 10,000 pilgrims from all over the world came to Fatima on 19th–20th of August 2017 for the Society of St. Pius X’s Pilgrimage to mark the centenary of the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to Lucia, Francisco and Jacinta.
Before the pilgrimage (on the 18th of August), Fr. Stehlin, Director of the M.I., gave several conferences about the apparitions in Fatima. Pilgrims listened to these conferences at the site of the apparitions of the Angel and in Valinhos.
On Saturday the 19th of August the pilgrims assembled in Car Park 14 for the Solemn High Mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Franz Schmidberger, Rector of the SSPX’s German seminary, assisted by Father Karl Stehlin, Superior of the District of Asia, as deacon, and Father Pascal Schreiber, Superior of the District of Switzerland, as subdeacon.
A magnificent procession followed to Os Valinhos where the rosary was recited on the spot where 100 years to the day that the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared. It was truly special. About 300 priests and seminarians and around 150 religious sisters surrounded the statue of Our Lady. Around 10,000 faithful attended this Mass from all over the world: many families from France, pilgrims from Germany, the UK, Italy, Spain, Latin America, also from Africa (Gabon, Senegal etc.) but also Japan, China, the Philippines, Singapore…
All night adoration on Car Park 14 was followed by a Pontifical High Mass on 20th of August celebrated by the Superior General, His Lordship Bishop Fellay. During the sermon His Excellency spoke about the important message of Fatima: the consecration of ourselves to the Blessed Virgin Mary, prayer and the conversion of sinners as well as the consecration of Russia to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
After the Mass, Russia was consecrated to the Immaculate of Heart of Mary by the three bishops of the Society. The pilgrimage closed at “Os Valinhos” with a meditated Rosary, litany and act of consecration of the Society of St. Pius X to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
Following the closing ceremony, Rev. Fr. Karl Stehlin, Director of the Militia Immaculatae, led a ceremony to commemorate the centenary of the founding of the Militia Immaculatae by St. Maximilian Kolbe.
Bishop Fellay gave a short sermon explaining that each of us should be a good instrument of the Immaculata. It is both our honour and our responsibility. Afterwards His Excellency blessed a few banners of the M.I. and he read the “Act of Consecration to the Immaculata” in Latin. The Knights of the M.I. repeated their “Act of Consecration” in Latin and afterwards in their own languages. This was made possible thanks to representatives of Kolbe Publications who had distributed the act in several languages: English, French and Spanish.
